ADDY AWARDS
Congratulations,2009 student Addy winners
Twelve students at Spokane Falls Community College took home ADDY awards at the recent student competition sponsored by the Spokane Advertising Federation. The goal of the annual ADDY® Awards is to recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising. The ADDY® Awards Competition is the industry’s largest and most representative competition for creative excellence. The ADDY® awards is a three tiered competition (local, regional, national). Gold and Silver ADDY® awards may be given in each category of the competition at the discretion of the judges. All winners are forwarded to the District XI ADDY® Awards Competition in April. The District XI winners are then eligible for the ultimate competition, the National ADDY® Awards, presented in June every year by the American Advertising Federation.

AVA CONNECTIONS
AVA Connections Brings High School Students to SFCC
On the last Friday in March, over 400 high school students came to the SFCC music auditorium to find out about the technical/professional programs we offer in the Applied Visual Arts department. After faculty gave overviews of each program, students watched presentations from area professionals representing graphic design, web design, photography and interior design. Program alumni Marcus Brown and Brandon Delauney from Seven 2 Interactive showcased their games and animations for Nintendo and Disney. Klundt | Hosmer designer Lorri Johnston gave a great presentation on what it takes to be a graphic designer. In the afternoon, students got a chance to tour our facilities and talk to program faculty. The students who showed interest in graphic and web design came away with valuable information about these careers and a clear idea of what they could expect in the programs. Because of this, they will have a jump-start on success when they join us in the Fall.

PREFLIGHT
PreFlight 2009: Student Portfolio Review
Megan Strope, SFCC Graphic Design Student , was the competition winner for this year's PreFlight poster design.
In April, students attended the 2nd Annual PreFlight Portfolio Review Event created by the Spokane Advertising Federation. PreFlight was designed to provide Graphic and Web Design students an opportunity to receive constructive feedback from experienced design professionals. Students were able to show their work and ideas to some of the best art directors and designers in the Inland Northwest. Students from SFCC, EWU, Whitworth College, WSU, U of I, and NIC participated and received one-on-one feedback on their portfolios. Sometimes positive, often times critical… the constructive feedback was eagerly received by students who walked away from the event with a more clear idea of what it takes to make professional design.
