Project 4

In this project I will learn to:

  • Access and manage built-in libraries of swatches, brushes, and symbols.
  • Define custom art and pattern brushes for specific applications.
  • Apply and control brush stroke in relation to paths.
  • Save user-defined libraries of custom assets.
  • Open and use symbol libraries created by other users.
  • Understand and create symbols and symbol instances.
  • Transform symbol instances and edit symbol artwork.
  • Replace symbols in placed instances.
  • Create a clipping mask.

Read and work through the project in the Against the Clock book. You will use the sample files provided by Against the Clock.

The project files are stored on the AVA Disciplines server in the Against_the_Clock_CC2014-student_files folder.

Against the Clock provides the files to those who purchase the books on their website. If you work outside the lab, files can be downloaded by following the instructions on the inside back cover of the book. If you are checking out books from the Library the online code may not work, so be sure to save files from our lab server.

You may find it convenient to copy the files onto your personal storage area.

The Exercises

Build your map as directed in the book. Customize the map by renaming it with your name. You will need to open the Legend group, and the group containing the logo. The turn off the Snowflake Summit shapes and create a new layer at the top to contain your new name.

Then, save the file; and also create a "smallest size" PDF.

Save the files in your project folder.

What to turn in:

the map

  • Your summit, with your name in the development title.
  • The PDF, summit map.pdf.

Create a compressed .zip archive of the both files. In Finder, select both files and click on File>Compress“filename”. The .zip file will appear in the same folder (or Desktop) as the original file or folder. The zip files are a very safe way to move collections of files over the internet, and they usually reduce the file size.

Rename your .zip file to 156-4-My

Attach this .zip archive to your Canvas turn-in area for this project.

Take the quiz

Go to the Assignments section in Canvas and take the project quiz. You are allowed to take the quizzes only twice. You might review and print the quiz before starting the project and locate the answers as you work.
