- Project 5
- Project 6
- Project 7
- Project 8
These projects are long and involved. Please save backups as you work, just in case you need to retrace your steps. Periodically do a "save as" to a new version of the file.
You only have two attempts to take each quiz, we suggest you review the quiz before you start the project; it will help you find the answers later.
Be aware of the software versions.
Adobe's Creative Cloud system sends us updates whenever they fix a problem. Our books don't update, so watch out for an occasional menu item or feature that has moved or renamed. Our books are for the 2017 version, and Adobe has updated to 2018. We will list problems we encounter in these instruction pages.
How to make a ZIP archive on a Mac
Choose your file(s) or folder(s); pull down the File menu and choose the Compress option; the .zip will appear on your Desktop. See this diagram.
Check your ZIP files
Students sometimes make zips that do not open correctly; so check your process before you turn in projects. After you create the zip archive, please check it by opening it on your computer to make sure the files reappear and open. Move the zip into a new folder before opening it, so the files do not clutter up your existing work.
Where can I find the working files?
If you purchased a textbook, follow the instructions in the book to obtain the files. If you borrow a textbook from the CBE Lab, complete sets of zipped files for each course are stored on the SFCC network for you to download and use. To access the SFCC Network,
in the Finder menu access the Go menu (top of computer screen) > Connect to Server > Click on SFCC Disciplines > SFCC GRDSN. You will see folders for Against_the_Clock_2016_Student _Files and After Effects. Copy the files for your course from these folders. You can also copy the font files at this point.
You may also go to the SFCC website, to the Faculty and Staff area, and choose the VPN login link. You will find the AVA Disciplines server and the project files.
If you are checking out a book from the library or lab, the download code in the book will probably not work, so copy the files off our school server.
Where are the Type Fonts?
The projects in the ATC books use their own fonts. These can be downloaded from the ATC website (www.againsttheclock.com) and the Graphic Design AVA Disciplines lab server listed above.
In the Graphic design labs the fonts are not installed in the Macintosh computers, but they are easy to install.
First, access the ATC fonts folder located in the student files folder you where you downloaded the project files on the AVA Disciplines server.
Then, select the font or fonts you wish to install then double click on the selected font or fonts.
Click on the install button on each font box that pops up.
Important: You must install fonts on each computer you use. The installed fonts do not follow you from machine to machine.
If you are working on your own computer, you would install the fonts on that computer.
If you are not able to use the ATC fonts, you are welcome to substitute a similar font in your projects. There may be some differences in spacing you may need to adjust with substitute fonts.
Adobe Typekit Fonts
Some exercises use the Adobe Typekit service to load fonts from the internet. This only works if you are a subscriber to the Adobe Creative Cloud. Typekit isn’t available in the labs so please skip the instructions for using Typekit fonts and use a substitute font. If you subscribe to the CC you may use the Typekit features.
