Adobe InDesign I, GRDSN 163

Project 1

In this project I will learn to:

  • Create a new file to meet defined defined project requirements.
  • Use the basic InDesign drawing tools to develop visual interest.
  • Select objects and object contents.
  • Create and format basic text attributes.
  • Place and manipulate external graphics files.
  • Print a desktop proof sample.

Read and work through the project in the Against the Clock book. You will use the sample files provided by Against the Clock.

The project files are stored in the Canvas Files area and also on the AVA Disciplines server in the Against_the_Clock_CC2015-student_files folder.

Against the Clock provides the files to those who purchase the books on their website. If you work outside the lab, files can be downloaded by following the instructions on the inside back cover of the book. If you are checking out books from the Library the online code may not work, so be sure to save files from our lab server.

You may find it convenient to copy the files onto your personal storage area.

The Exercises

Complete the exercises for the Identity Package; and make this special addition: Duplicate the tagline, “urban architecture & natural landscape” and drag the copy below the black header area, change the text color to black, and edit the text to something similar to “with Your Name, assistant”.

Don't print to paper

You should read the printing instructions, but you do not need to print out the file for this project. Instead, you will turn in a PDF of the letterhead. We used to be able to print to a PDF file, but recent software changes make this impossible, so create a PDF by using the File > Adobe PDF Presets. Choose the Smallest File Size option, and when you get to the export settings, set the Marks and Bleeds to “All Printer's Marks”.

What to turn in

The letterhead

You can submit this PDF file directly into the Canvas Turn-in for Project 1, without creating a ZIP archive.

Please rename your file to 163-1-My name.pdf.

Take the quiz

Go to the Assignments section in Canvas and take the project quiz. You are allowed to take the quizzes only twice. You might review and print the quiz before starting the project and locate the answers as you work.

You are done with the first project!
