Thumbnail Exercise given, go over what is a thumbnail

Week Two

Line gesture exercises, bring newsprint and sketchbook, tools including charcoal, brush and ink.

Week Four

In class: Interchangeable positive/negative shape drawing. Bring newsprint and tools including pencils, ball point pen and Sharpies.

Gesture exercise due.

In class: Problem 3.8, Rubbed planar drawing, p.87. Bring vine charcoal, 6B pencil and large piece of brown specialty paper.

Outside class: Read Chapter 4.

Discussion on Chapters 3-4.

In class: Drawing using
value reversal, p. 110. Bring dark colored specialty paper and a white colored pencil.

In class: Planar drawing again

Discussion of course to this point.

Read Chapter 5.

In class again: Drawing using value through light and shading. Bring a soft leaded pencil and newsprint. Techniques of shading will be explored: stippling, smudging, crosshatching

Week Seven

In class: Drawing using
value subjectively, bring a poem or poem about a myth typed, high quality colored paper and tools of your choice.

Work in class on myth/poem drawing to finish it.

Discussion of
Chapter 5.

Week Eight

Quiz Chapter 5.

In class: Drawing exaggerated contour line, see p. 126 in the textbook. We will recycle bond paper and use your pens.

Veteran's Day Holiday

In class: Draw with calligraphic line or handwriting. Bring brush and ink and a nice piece of white paper along with newsprint and a container to hold water.
