GRDSN 125: Montage Exercise

You will be making a small poster, 6.125 inches by 11.5 inches. The piece will be a montage using a poem, your drawings and images that you will be collecting. Included in those images will be a photo of yourself and a physical object that you have scanned. This piece should reflect the time period in your font choice and must include the author and date of the poem.

The objective of this exercise is to:

  • research images connected with the historical time period of your poem
  • use some required art (typography, photo of yourself, drawings and piece from nature) and others collected by you
  • learn some photoshop filters with your drawings and ways to create a montage
  • see how creative you can be using the design principles
  • color correct your photos/digital scans
  • present your piece professionally


Primary tasks:

  • Bring in a photo of yourself, an object, (leaf, flower, shoe, etc.) and several images to scan.
  • Bring in your drawings to scan or draw directly on the computer.
  • Create a poster to the dimensions required.
  • Print out, mount on black mat board and save as a Photoshop file in your folder.
