GRDSN 212 and 217: Self Directed Learning

WEEKLY LEARNING EXERCISES:

The SFCC Graphic and Web Design Mission statement states:

Inter-linked courses simulate industry environments and require students to "develop self-directed learning skills."

The goal of these exercises is that you:
a) determine what "you" need to learn and
b) explain and demonstrate what you have learned.

You can use the technology competency listing for the project(s) or come up with your own. But it must relate to the "project" at hand.

In groups of three we will discuss and demonstrate what we have learned. Then the group will decide on which technique / tip is the most appropriate to the project. This person will then present the technique / tip to the class.

Each week you should:
1) Write an Objective,
2) State the Strategy for Learning and
3) Share the Outcome with your fellow classmates.

EXAMPLE:

Student Name: Paul Baran
Project: The following learning exercise relates to my online portfolio project.

1. OBJECTIVE

I want to learn how to sign up for a "free web service", create an html document and upload the file(s).

2. STRATEGY

I plan on accomplishing my objective by:

- Using a search engine I will determine what "free web services" are available
- Signing up for an account
- Reading over the help files provided on the site
- Uploading an html document and image

3. OUTCOME

To demonstrate what I have learned I will show my fellow students during class a web page that is online.

Note: The above information should be type written and handed into your instructor each week as outlined above. It is required that you officially "present" to the class as a whole a minimum of two times before the end of the quarter.

Grading: You will receive 10 points for each learning objective. These exercises account for 50% of your Technology Grade. The other 50% is attending and teaching a tip or technique to a fellow student.

100 pts = 4.0
90 pts = 3.5
80 pts = 3.0
70 pts = 2.5
60 pts = 2.0
50 pts = 1.5
40 pts = 1.0
30 pts = .5
20 pts = .0
