Weekly Exercise: Typographic Construction and Destruction

Assignment: After reading the handout provided you will be able to produce and develop creative typography / logotypes for specific events or organizations. Each week you will need to choose a company or organization and develop a logo using type only. Each Friday during the spring quarter you will need to bring your design(s) for discussion. These pieces should show the use of one or more of the following creative techniques and should supplement your portfolio.

Criteria (This is how well it has to be done...)

1. Meet deadline by bringing a typographic solution to class each Friday.

2. Respect the client's point of view by speaking in a polite manner and asking questions when it is appropriate

3. Attend and participate in all meetings by giving quality feedback by evaluating and critiquing other students work.

6. Produce visual elements that are appropriate / effective in representing the client / product / services that...

a) represent the company, service or product in a
positive way
b)
communicate the mood, spirit and/or theme of the company and product through typography only

7. Craft each visual element with an attention to detail by doing the following...

a) print your design in black and white on a 8.5" x 11"
c) using one of the techniques listed above in your final design
d) attaching your preliminary rough designs showing that you have experimented with the technique list

10. At the end of the quarter develop a 8.5"x11" logo sheet with your top five designs and place a low resolution PDF file with fonts embedded onto the server in: Fridge/Faculty/Stiles/GRDSN Process VI

Grading: You will receive 10 points for each design. These exercises account for 50% of your Process Grade. The other 50% is attending and critiquing work for your portfolio every Thursday.
