235: Multimedia Technology I Course Syllabus Instructor Info: Section AA
Prerequisites: To enroll in this course, the student must have completed first year GRDSN courses. Course Description: This class is an introduction to the field of multimedia design used for internet pages, and interactive presentations, games and entertainment. The student will conceive, refine and create visual images to enhance the interactivity that is created for a site. The course focuses on solving design problems such as appropriate graphic formats and size, linkages to information, ease of use of interactivity, and effective use of sound. Students will be using professional software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and GarageBand. Activities Activities include lecture/discussions, lab time, and presentations. Students research subject matter with the purpose of determining the methods of their creation. In addition, oral critiques will be held. Projects include various exercises culminating with an interactive portfolio of their work in graphic design. This piece will be put on a CD/Web for sending to potential employers. Grading This is a course that
requires a lot of thinking. If you have completed the criteria and competency listing on any given project you will receive a 3.0. If you do not meet these industry standards you will receive an “i” for incomplete. Any incomplete projects need to be completed within 5 lab days after the final due date to receive a passing grade. Cell phones must be turned off in the classroom. Be prepared: Bring your sketch book, paper, pencils, pens, disks, ideas, pictures to scan, research, and textbooks to class. You need to create a binder that contains your class handouts, competency listings and sign off sheet
This should be with you at all times. It is recommended that you get extra storage media to make multiple backups of your work. Projects: 2. Greeting Card I examples, Mother's Day 3. Interactive Studio Portfolio for CD
