GRDSN 224: Montage Exercise

You will be making a small poster, 6.125 inches by 11.5 inches. Web students will prepare the same information for a home page. The piece will be a montage using all pieces of the prior typography assignment (poem) and images that you will be collecting. Included in those images will be a photo of yourself and a physical object that you have scanned. This piece should reflect the time period of your type and must include the author and date of the poem just as in the prior piece.

The objective of this exercise is to:

  • research images connected with the historical time period of your poem
  • use some required art (typography from previous assignment, photo of yourself and piece from nature) and others collected by you
  • learn some photoshop filters and ways to create a montage
  • see how creative you can be using the design principles
  • color correct your photos/digital scans
  • present your piece professionally

Primary tasks:

  • Bring in a photo of yourself, an object, (leaf, flower, shoe, etc.) and several images to scan.
  • Use the typography from the last exercise and your images to create a montage for this mini poster/home page.
  • Print out, mount on black mat board and save as a Photoshop file in your folder. If a web student, you will prepare your file for uploading on the internet.
