Design Exercise
Visual typography means type that is meant to
be seen more than read.
Forget all of the rules about typography and
type formatting and allow yourself to see type as line and shape.
Examples: 1 2 3 4 5
Instructions:
- Use the text
and logo provided by your instructor.
(Note: Logo can not be distorted. Place as is.)
- Select all of the text and copy it (Edit>Copy).
- Open a new document in Illustrator or InDesign.
- Paste the text.
- Using the text elements, create a visual composition.
You can cut and paste into as many different text boxes as you
like.
- Remember to use visual heirarchy of elements
- Create a mood, feeling or idea through the type
Rules:
- Use ONLY type. No line or shape objects.
- Use black (and tints of black) only.
- Use asymmetry.
- Use the principles of design and gestalt.
Specifications:
- Document size: 13"w x19"h
- Put the following in 10 pt type in the right hand corner of your design:
Designed by: Firstname Lastname
- Submit as press quality PDF.
- Deadline: Next Thursday.
