Grid Exercise:
After reading the information in the "Layout Index" on Newsletters and Grids... you will be able to create 3 different structured layouts to organize information for your newsletter project.
Step 1: Read Chapter 6 in the Layout Index and download the files provided.
Step 2: Using your newsletter research explore and determine combinations of fonts and choose 2 different fonts for each layout.
(ex: Futura and Garamond, Franklin Gothic and Baskerville, Rockwell and New Century Schoolbook)
Step 3: Using a page layout program create three different document layouts.
(Set the margins, set the columns, and create a grid structure using the grid / guides)
Step 4: Place the nameplate provided into your 3 different layout designs.
Step 5: Place the Lorem Ipsum text into your document to indicate the type style, size, leading and layout.
Step 6: Use shapes to indicate placement of photographs.
Step 7: Explore and determine usage of dividers between columns.
Step 8: Insert a drop cap for visual interest and to direct the readers' eye.
Step 9: Explore the usage of end story markers.
Step 10: Locate 3 different styles of clip art and place an example into each layout.
(Ex: Handdrawn original spot illustrations, Engravings from the Dover Collection, Cartoon Copyright Free Clipart)
Step 11: Save your original page layout file and PDFs in the Process Course folder for review.
