How to manually preview and activate fonts.

Step one: Locate the folder to put font files in to activate them.

The Fonts folder on the dock will activate any font file moved into it.

Step Two: Locate the folder which contains the graphic design fonts.

The Macintosh HD directory contains the fonts folder.

Step Three: Locate the desired font directories (classifications of type).

Inside the Graphic Design Fonts folder are folders containg font files. Note that some file names are plain and others have blue labels.

Step Four: Determine which files are printer fonts and which files are suitcases.

Generally, the plain file names indicate suitcase files and the blue labeled names indicate printer fonts. To be sure, change your window to list view and look at the file description at the right. It will tell you a file is either a Font Suitcase or a PostScript Type One font.

You will use the Font Suitcase to generate a preview of the font.

Step Five: Preview the font.

Double-click on the font suitcase filename. This will load Font Book, which will show you what the font looks like.

Step Six: Activate the font files.

First, select the font suitcase file along with all of the corresponding printer font files.

Next, drag the files down to the fonts folder on the dock. The font files are now active and will appear in application font menus.
