Product Site Re-design


Scenario: You are a web designer working for a Internet Web Site Developer. The agency has recently been approached to re-design a web interface for a large corporation.

The company would like the current information on the web organized differently and is looking for a fresh new approach.The client has asked that the current information online be used to develop the new look. These web pages should be designed to fit in a browser window on an 800 x 600 pixel monitor.

You are to develop three different site designs for the client to sign-off on a creative direction. The client has also asked that the files be put on a server for review.

Step 1: Meet with your projects instructor.

  1. Go to the Product Site projects page and collect the project information:
  2. Print out a copy of the sign-off sheet
  3. Schedule a meeting with the projects instructor, who will be your client for this project.
Step 2: Meet with your process instructor.
  1. Go to the Product Site process page and collect the process information.
  2. Schedule a meeting with the process instructor, who will be your art director for this project.
Step 4: Complete project research.
  1. Define the target audience.
  2. Define the client need.
  3. Collect examples of similar projects.
  4. Choose a site from your research to redesign.
  5. Gather essential copy and elements needed for the web site.
Step 5: Develop thumbnails
  1. Create three different concepts.
  2. Develop thumbnails of the splash page and one or more interior pages for each concept.
  3. Verify that your work meets thumbnail criteria.
  4. Submit thumbnails to the art director for approva/sign-off.
Step 6: Develop rough layouts.
  1. Copy content (text, images, nav titles) from your research site.
  2. Develop three sets of roughs from thumbnails which were approved by the art director.
  3. Each set of roughs will consist of a home page and two internal pages.
  4. Rough layouts will be saved as Photoshop Layer Comps (all comps are in ONE psd document).
  5. Submit roughs to the art director for approval/sign-off.
Step 7: Submit rough layouts to the client for approval/sign-off.
  1. After the art director approves your roughs, meet with the client and present your designs for approval/sign-off.

Step 8. Make an appointment with your lab instructor to sign off on the following:

  1. hand in studio (lab) time sheet
  2. show back up filing system

Step 9: Fill out self-assessments:
