Project: Stationery Design

Scenario: Spokane Community Colleges has recently posted an ad on Craigslist.

The ad reads:

The Community Colleges of Spokane seeks a graphic production artist with Macintosh platform and software experience. CCS's in-house design department is currently seeking an individual proficient in InDesign, PhotoShop, and Illustrator applications. The candidate should also be able to write HTML, CSS and design for the World Wide Web using Dreamweaver, ImageReady or Fireworks. Flash animation and knowledge of actionscript a plus. Ability to work in teams and produce quality design work a must. Starting pay is $11.50 -$13.50 an hour with room to grow. DOE/DOQ and full benefits after 90 days. Send cover and letter resume to:

In order to make your cover letter and resume stand out from the other possible candidates for the job, you will need to create a stationery design that reflects the quality of your work. This stationery design should be flexible enough to print out a business card, letterhead and envelope on a standard color printer. (The business card will be used for networking.)

Step 1: Meet with your instructor.

  1. Create content for your Resume, Business Card, Envelope & Cover Letter
  2. Determine logos to be re-designed if necessary for the logo sheet

Step 2: Research standard cover letter and resume formats.

Consider the functions of resumes and cover letters.

Use the resources provided in class along with the following links for your research:

Step 3: Research "Creative" Approaches to resume design: Deviant Art | WorkAwesome | SpeckyBoy

Step 4: Develop thumbnails / concepts.

Step 5: Develop 3 rough designs. Show the designs to your instructor to help determine design direction.

Step 5: Send your cover letter, resume and business card via standard US postal mail to:

Step 6: Submit a PDF file of your business card, cover letter, resume and logo sheet to the folder provided.
